You buy it, it gets added to your steam library, and then you can download it.

Note that you do need another Source game, such as Half-Life 2 or Counter-Strike. Although I think you can also use Team Fortress 2 (which is free).

I bought GMod + Team Fortress 2 back in the days, so I think it's still possible. So Clavus is right.

I highly recommend you to buy Counter strike: Source to, since its needed for most gamemodes.

What Damien+Clav said. If you're wanting to play mr green ZS you'll want half life installed, I tried playing ZS for the first time and had forgotten to install half life and cs:s and I just got tons of pink error textures on everything

You dont need any source games to play gmod.

You need Counter-Strike:Source to play on the Left4Green ZombieSurvival server.

But you can download the files for CS:S from the internet, so ZS works but the CS:S itself does not.
