Poor connection / download speed / packet loss

OK So I've been having issues with the mr.green server for a couple of months now and it's really bugging me... please help!

First off, I only seem to have problems on mr.greens - other servers such as the SKC or DDC servers work fine... I can play on them for hours without any problems.

The symptoms are:

  • i get what appears to be massive lag. other cars "rubber band" all over the place. or even worse, other cars just appear stationary at intervals along the race route (like a snapshot of where that car was at that time - if you hit them it's like hitting a brick wall... unplayable)
  • If i have to download the map it downloads at a really slow rate (5-10 secs for 100kb for instance)
  • if I look at my cable modem when I'm experienceing these issues I can see the Upstream light flashing fast as I would expect, but the downstream blinks much slower (which is why I mentioned packet loss... but im no expert, so...)

Sometimes /reconnect fixes the issue, other times it doesn't. for example, just now I reset my modem (assigned a new ip) rejoined the server and the issues started straight away.

I have a reliable 10mb connection. I can run a speed test while im playing and it shows my DL and UL rates are far from maxxed.

I've disabled my firewall, bypassed my router, reinstalled MTA, done full virus/adware scans but NOTHING seems to fix the issue!

Please please please PLEASE HELP! :(

Run this to check for packet loss and jitter.

0% packet loss

46ms ping

30ms jitter

edit: also...

C:\>ping 87.238.173.119

Pinging 87.238.173.119 with 32 bytes of data:

Reply from 87.238.173.119: bytes=32 time=55ms TTL=120
Reply from 87.238.173.119: bytes=32 time=35ms TTL=120
Reply from 87.238.173.119: bytes=32 time=47ms TTL=120
Reply from 87.238.173.119: bytes=32 time=34ms TTL=120

Ping statistics for 87.238.173.119:
Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 4, Lost = 0 (0% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
Minimum = 34ms, Maximum = 55ms, Average = 42ms

edit 2: I would also add that the problem seems more prevalent the more players are on ther server. right now there are only 30 people playing and my ping seems quite stable compared to when it is 50-60+ (it will fluctuate between 40 and 120ish)

edit 3: So i've been playing for 5 minutes an the issues have returned. So I performed the ping test while still in the server and got similar results as above... pinging the mr.green server was also the same.

That's my results. The high jitter could cause some lag spikes or rubber banding but i would expect it to affect all the servers you play on.

Edit: does you ISP trottle your connection at peak times?

That's what I was thinking... if it was a problem with my connection, I'd expect it to effect any server I played on. SKC server for example is also a dutch server with the same port (22003).

I'm on Virgin media who do throttle at peak times (up until 9pm-ish) but I've experienced that before and it's not that... DL and UP would be limited to 25%, easy to tell with a speedtest.

It's already difficult enough to solve such problems in one country. But seeing the lines are international, fixing this is quite impossible.

The best thing to do is simply wait and hope it'll be magically fixed someday.

wow ur not the only one

this has happened to me many times:

cars random-jumping everywhere, and then stopping suddenly and blocking me but that only happened when my ping was like over 300. what i did is just waited for it to be normal again lol, but it took like 1 day not months like ur case :S

also ive had other problem, when my ping is okay (~200) but the downloads are slow as FUCK, ex: when i pickup a nitro it appears like 20 seconds after xD

what i did there was to reset my modem/internet cable and reboot my pc and it was fixed
