  1. I can name at least one popular server which has the choice of random crits at the start of each round. Random crits are the bane of any equal chance. Allow me to demonstrate: You have two soldiers, of equal skill. They start off firing rockets, each hitting the other full-on once, doing 100 damage. Now, they both switch to the shotgun. One of them gets the other to 10 HP. The lowest-health soldier gets a crit, and wins. Obviously, the other soldier SHOULD have won, because he landed more shots. However, the random number generator decides that the other should win. In a battle of skill, luck should not even factor into the equation. So, we can see that the critical hits aren't based on skill. And since these crits are, apparently, part of Mr. Green, that means that the (arena) server is, essentially, not based on skill. If anything, I feel that all servers should have a crit-vote. However, since Arena is undoubtedly the more skill-based server, at least have the vote enabled there. Eliminate luck, and give skill a chance.
  2. From what I hear, it's a nospread hack, which might have been coupled with an aimbot. Basically, it assures that each shot has no spread from the previous shot, making them as accurate as the sniper rifle- but with automatic weapons as well. It's commonly used with Heavies (miniguns without spread are shredding machines) and scouts/ engineers (pistols with zero spread.) Or it was a really good heavy. But considering the chances, I'd wager against that odd. Also, I broke the off-topic discussion.
  3. I choose random when I first enter a new round. When I join during a game, I try and find the team with my friends in it. Also, I hate teams that don't move. As in, 5 engineers, 4 snipers and 2 spies. Whatever combat class there is is left alone to die when he moves outside of the base.
  4. I find Axon usually responds well to a prod in the back. With a knife. No, but seriously, Axon isn't the only reason people stack together. There's at least 2-3 "Clans" or at least tagged members who'll often team up. And if even three people utilize teamwork, it's going to obliterate an unorganized team. Communication is vital in teamwork. I know I barely use my mic, but if a team has people actually communicating it automatically raises its chances. Now if only people knew how to use their mics for something other than spamming horrid songs...
  5. So, to everyone who is oblivious of patches/ updates, or doesn't visit the regular TF2 forum: A new update has been released. The three main things to change are: - The Blutsauger now drains 2 hp per second when used, slowing the medic's regular regeneration down. - Sandviches can now be dropped to provide health to teammates. They also restore more HP when eaten via the taunt method. - Explosions on stickies, grenades and rockets have been changed in radius. They should be more "Consistent" now, whatever that means... Full update news, as always, to be found under your "Games" directory in Steam. Just right-click Team Fortress and check the update news.
  6. They most likely leave BECAUSE all the regulars remain in one team. When it's 12 Vs. 12, and one team has eight regulars banding together, it's going to be a massive steamroll. People don't like losing, so they quit. And at the end of the night, it's 4 regulars against another 4 regulars. Also, do we show on the giant server list since the move? I do get the feeling some people don't run into the server any more...
  7. I realize it's annoying to get beaten over and over because the other team has regulars/ skilled players gravitating towards one another, but the problem is that there's nothing we can really do about it. Scramble would be more likely to result in people spectating until they can get back to their friend's team, or else causing players to quit. And even if we could scramble, there's no guarantee the team you're in is going to be any better than the team you came from. I do find myself guilty of joining the team with the regulars in it, though; you know what to expect from them, and the chat's always nice. Considering there's... four or five CTF maps, this wouldn't really be that great of an idea. Especially on the server's current map time limit (45 minutes) since, unlike CP maps, CTF maps have to played until the bitter end. And it's indeed a bitter end when both teams decide that taking the intel should take a backseat to erecting eight sentry nests around the intel. Lowering the map time limit to 30 minutes could be a suggestion for the CP server, though. I believe the current time limit there is 45 minutes now, and around 30 minutes (or 2-3 wins by one team) people start calling out for scrambles or mapchange.
  8. A bit of an over-reaction on all sides here, on my opinion. No one "Earned" their hat; it's all random drops. Whether you played or not when getting one makes no difference to anyone. On the other hand, since Valve now decided the idler was cheating, I respect their decision to take action. I myself am left with about 9 unlockables. Over 500 hours of using the idler earnt me no hats, which I think is a nice example of the flawed drop system in the first place. Since Valve said that milestone weapons will return, I'm sure that I'll get all the weapon unlocks I got fair and square returned to me. On the other hand, if they don't, I'll treat this as a test of the random drop system. Let's see how long it takes to obtain all the unlockables through "Fair Play." Also, the halo's are pretty useless. They split apart the teams, they have no real value and they definitely don't stop the wearer from going to an idling server and sitting there the rest of the day. EDIT: So, I now have all the milestone weapons returned to me. I lost nothing, and I gained nothing. Seems like a fair deal to me.
  9. I've been wondering for a while now: Why isn't CTF_Turbine included in the map rotation of the CTF/CP server? It's an official map, it's open and gives the spy and sniper (and to some extent the scout) plenty of chances to shine, even in the hussle of a 32-man server. It's the only map that I feel is really missing in the rotation. And I do believe that most people prefer it over CTF_2Fort. So yeah, why wasn't Turbine included in the rotation? Any particular reasons? Also, on unrelated note: Pistol scripts, and scripts using the "wait" command causes players to crash on Mr. Green, due to the server variable "sv_allow_wait_command" being set to 1. I can understand this is used to block scripts that seem unfair, but a warning somewhere would be a nice touch. Some people need to alt-tab out of the game to undo their script, then restart the game to resume, whereas with a warning somewhere they could toggle the script off before playing. Thanks for reading.
  10. Oh, so that's what happened at OpticalGaming. I used to spend my TF2 times there, because there were some people who knew how to play, as well as some generally nice guys. I was wondering where it went once it disappeared. Luckily, Mr. Green provides me with decent and nice TF2 players now. And if one thing is sure to ruin communities, it's people claiming to be better/ having a greater part in the community and therefore being superior. It's often on forums when people with 2,000 posts start disregarding opinions and ideas of people with less than 100 posts.
  11. Gameserver: Team Fortress 2- CTF and CP. Age: 18 Country of origin: Holland About me: 18 year old guy who lives in Holland and loves to play Team Fortress. I'm a regular at the CP/ CTF server, and I enjoy playing with the people there. It's unfortunate to see that there are so few admins around at times. The community is great overall, but there are always some rotten apples that see the need to spoil a good running game. That's why I'd like to be an admin: so that I can make sure everyone's having fun. I am currently following a rather laid-back study, which allows me to be on frequently. As I already mentioned, I play quite a lot on this server, probably a bit too much for my own good. Although I have encountered few cheaters (aside from occasional well-known exploits), I believe that the server would benefit from an admin who visits frequently. In case it's useful in any way, I go by the name of <Gentlemen>Wixern in-game. It's not a clan tag, per se, since it's just me and a friend using the tag to work together in-game. Thank you for reading, and I hope you'll take me into consideration. Regards, Wixern
