Botervloot Posted May 25, 2010 Posted May 25, 2010 HI, I'M BOTER VERLOOT, AND I'M HERE TODAY WITH YWA, WHO I WILL INTERVIEW ABOUT HIS LATEST PROJECT, WOOT!Botervloot: Is Woot still the same idea as it was before? Or is it going to be more open, MMO-like?Ywa: We've chosen to move away from the Source engine because we really want it to be like a MMO, where you could walk through a city and meet hundreds of other players and npcs.Sometimes a npc might ask you for a favour, and if you do what he asks. You'll gain Green Coins. And that's basicly what we want with the open world, an interactive world with lots of players and npcs.Botervloot: You know that this is a pretty risky move. Have you considerd any other options besides it, to ultimately make it succeed? So is this really going to happen?Ywa: No, we don't have any backup options any more. I'm 100% sure it can be done if there'll be enough time spend on it.And since Limetric needs something to start up with, Woot is the perfect project.Botervloot: Are we going to see character customization? Like hats and clothes.Ywa: Yes, hats, clothing, accessory should all be possible to buy, sell and wear.Botervloot: Is it going to be just like WoW (in the sense of, doing quests, and just hanging around), or are we going to see some other things, like DM in separate areas, or other gametypes?Ywa: It's going to be a realistic world. So no weapons or special DM areas to play in.However, we will add a lot of mini-games which can be played both alone and with friends.Mini-games can be things like gambling in casinos, playing chess with one of your friends, darts etc. etc.Botervloot: You mentioned realistic world, so is it going to be in this era?Ywa: Like I said, It's a realistic world without weapons and such. You wont be able to level up or so. However, if you want to do or enter certain areas/buildings you will need to pay coins.Botervloot: How long will this game be in the making? Or are you going to follow the idea behind the original Woot, ("We'll build it up separately, and continue on adding things.")Ywa: We're planning on creating a small city as a start/test. If people like the game concept, gameplay and such we'll continue adding stuff to it every month. We're aiming to have a first public test around this years Christmas.Botervloot: Is the VIP system (Greens, or paid VIP) going to be implanted, just like in Gmod?Ywa: No. Everyone is equal and everything is handled by coins.Botervloot: But there will be gamemasters/admins, right?Ywa: Yes, of course. But those won't have in-game benefits.Botervloot: Do we have to pay for this game? And is it a browser based game, or an installed game?Ywa: The game itself can be downloaded & installed free of charge. However, certain things in-game will cost coins. However, these can also be gained by completing tasks and playing other mini-games (but you can also pay for these coins if you want). So everyone can fully enjoy this game, even if they rather not pay.Botervloot: Are you going to implant something unique? A feature that has never been seen before in an MMO?Ywa: Yeah. We will have a red light district.EpicBotervloot: Will this game get a separate section in L4G, or will it receive an entirely new forum? And will L4G/Mr.Green have connection to this? (redirection to L4G, Mr.green and the other way around?)Ywa: The project wont be integrated into the MrGreen and/or L4G communities. However, for development we will use the L4G forums. When we're heading to a release, we will start using a separate website & forum.Botervloot Is this game going to play in 3th person, or first?Ywa: 3rd person.Botervloot: Will it have cars/pets/achievements?Ywa: Cars aren't planned, but may be added at a later stage. Same goes for pets. Achievements will be most likely added. An interesting experience it has been indeed.Red light district Quote

Ywa Posted May 25, 2010 Posted May 25, 2010 How many is working on Woot now?Current active developers are just the programmers which are Deluvas and I.Also, the video Botervloot showed nice. But you can't render a huge environment with all SSAO and such (low fps). Quote

Chikennugget1 Posted May 25, 2010 Posted May 25, 2010 Are you using a derivated from the Source Engine to do this?Good luck, it will take a long time, you should recruit some other people for graphics/other stuff cause it's quite a big work for 2 persons.I hope it will succeed Quote

stalker-dude(nl) Posted May 25, 2010 Posted May 25, 2010 So if I understand it in a good way it is:A MMO (based not on a source engine) where people can walk around freely and interact (also with NPC's) play mini games and meet new people. And that it's not linked at all to mr-green and left4green community's.One question; will the players (so us) walk around in maps? And yes: how big will these maps be and will there be more than just one or 2? EmRA Posted May 25, 2010 Posted May 25, 2010 I'm interested in seeing how you will make the red light district work. Quote
Clavus Posted May 25, 2010 Posted May 25, 2010 Well, at least you know what you want to do with Woot. What game engine are you gonna use?TrueVision3D with Newton Game Dynamics physics. Not a known engine but it has enough to offer. Physics engine. In a MMO. Ain't gonna work out sir; have you ever seen a MMO with a decent physics engine? You can only use it for client-side physics, but then it'd be nothing more than a gimmick. Quote

I just said which software/engine I used.Need ideas to steal from ?http://www.entropiauniverse.com/ -> http://www.planetcalypso.com/home/You can't compare that with Woot. First of all, Woot is meant for having fun and not having a real economy. Then that Calypso looks like a future game with weapons and such. Quote
