to go away the closer you get to them its like a map limit i think

I sometimes have them on the left4green.com server but not on single player, Maybe another SMP glitch?

to get them near them is really easy, make a friend starta server and when you see those blocks in the air make him crash the server or rather unplugg from the internet, you will be able to walk for about 8-12 sec before you auto leave i discoverd its just some flying blocks with torches on them

You see them because render distance is probably on Normal, and its also only in SMP
