  1. It is exam season too, keep in mind, I wouldnt be surprised if more people started playing again next month: I know I will
  2. I feel a tf2 update coming..

  3. Yes!
  4. And those sound tracks wouldnt fit with the game mode. Each round would last for quite a while, music wouldn't really be needed that much as its not fast paced or very actiony - You dont see music playing in games like CS:S or HL2 and stuff, its exactly the same thing.
  5. Sweet Im thinking there wouldnt be any music actually.. purely ambient sound instead seems more fitting
  6. Yeah Balmung, you're right I think as long as a select few of us come on at around the same time in the evening whenever we can then it'll fill up As long as other people are willing to come do that too then I'm more than happy to wait around to get it to fill up
  7. Put that into spoilers This isnt a suggestion thread, discussion a bit maybe, but keep it short: I just want to see if there are any coders first.
  8. Okay I'll explain my initial thoughts on it, just to clear some things up As Mog said, half the team DO get slaughtered at the start, that's kind of part of it. You either risk running to the middle to get the equipment you need, and have a high chance of dying, or run away and plan to get weapons later on. And the team thing would probably be optional, as thats the whole point of the hunger games, but obviously a lot of players like to play with their friends so being able to get in a team of 2 with a friend would be a nice bonus.. In the film, there are weapons in the middle, but half way to the middle there are backpacks with basic supplies in. This could be things like a medkit and some kevlar or something like that. Then there'd need to be some ways to impliment stuff in the outer regions for people without weapons to be able to put in traps or something like that, meaning that players with the better weapons cant just run around and shoot everyone: they have to track them down and risk getting stuck in traps. Also, there arent any weapons like guns and such in the film, so people wouldn't be able to be crazy OP and just shoot them from a mile away and kill them. Itd need to be made more skill based than weapon based. I completely agree, it does sound hard, but its still do-able and I thought I'd rather suggest it now than sit around and not do anything I'll be doing some easier projects soon anyway, like basic 2D game stuff, this would be a long term project for whoever said they're interested @technonegro I disagree, this thing has been CRAZY succesful on MineCraft (as different as the games are, it still shows player mentality), not to mention the only difference between this and the Search and Destroy game mode is that it is longer, more intense and rewarding gameplay
  9. @Jeffmcgee Please refer to other people with a bit more dignity when speaking: I'm only trying to help. I was not contradicting to myself, I don't think you understood what I was saying. An incentive like the double green coins for a short period of time (which was just a suggestion) would guarantee some of the active Mr.Green users to want to go and play for that short period of time. After which, the casual users would join purely by the fact that there are other users in the game. The difference between that and the incentive of doing a give away of items to the most active user, is that there is always going to be a couple of users that are more active than others: regardless to whether or not there is a giveaway. There wont be an increase of players at any set time, causing the server to fill up from that, as these active players who are at the top anyway wont have to play any more than they already do, meaning everyone else won't bother trying that much. I said it would go to a couple of people because, as I've said several times, there are already a handful of 'veteran' active players on the green server, who aren't going to need to bother putting in the extra effort = not increasing a boost in players after the server is on 0 players. Its not an issue of needing more members, there are thousands of people on this forum and tons of people that would play the green server if it were full, its an issue of getting those first 6 players on: something that the thing I proposed would improve, It is just illogical. If someone could suggest some other ideas, maybe similar to this but not being bias towards veterans who play the game anyway, then we would make some progress instead of people jumping onto one idea
  10. I wont go in depth about what the idea is in this thread unless you message me and I know you'd be interested. But essentially it would be creating a replica of the Hunger Games as a Gmod server. Starting with 30 or so players, with a pool of weapons and resources in the middle, and an environment around them to hide and make traps in. There would be a director that gives resources / weapons to players every X nights they stay alive depending on their need of it (like sponsors in the film) and it would just be last man standing. The only difference from the film would be that people can work in pairs (put them in the same district) I'm 99% sure this hasn't been done before on an FPS game, It would be a good attempt at making a stand alone game that people would pay for to play on its own, not just a plugin that changes the game mode a bit. We'd need: - A coder, experienced in coding for Gmod: This is the most important, obviously, so people who have experience in making server mods. Off the top of my head, excluding obvious things it would include coding: the system of giving items to players depending on their need of it; the announcements of deaths across the map; server reset after all the players have died; The starting system for the game (X amount of time before the games start, and rising up in tubes like in THG); etc - Fairly experienced mapper/s The maps would have to be fairly large to make it playable, and as I said would be a replica of Hunger Games locations. Meaning the maps would be places like a forest, or some aztec ruins, fitting stuff like that. - A modeler to make any extra props required Just to avoid being lazy and using default HL2 props, it would be good to have someone to make any extra props or models that are needed. I think anything this group makes should stick as much as possible to not mooching off of other peoples work - its against the whole point of it The most important thing is knowing there's an experienced coder who would be interested in making this game mode, as they're harder to find. I have no doubt that if this was made to a high standard and was put on the L4G servers it would be very popular. Anyway, just post below if you're interested or message me in the private chat to talk about it. It'd be crazy fun, and a nice project to get the ball rolling on this ProjectReign thing. And also its not like theres any time set on this thing, its just for fun, so no rush if you're not free for a while. I hope someone else is interested.. Necro? Clav? Poofoo? xoxoxox Oh, and just incase, if you're not a L4G forum user and just someone from teh Googles, dont let that stop you from messaging me.
  11. I agree, which is why it makes sense to give some people an insentive The reason why people don't play is because its empty, the server EASILY fills up if there are 6 or so players in no time, because they know they have people to play with! So a small incentive to get a few people to play will bring in the people who 'want to' play and fill it up for the evening, as you said The idea of gifting people refined seems a bit unfair, its not going to bring in any NEW players every day because the only person that will get the loot will be one of the already active players, probably wont be much competition as to who gets it Raffle of the refined metal but only people who have played a certain amount of hours can enter, like not too many hours and have something in chat saying about it, and telling them to come ot the forums to register so they can participate. Still sounds like something that'll ward off casual gamers to me..

  13. Heres an idea I had in college today People earn double green coins between like 8:30 and 9:00 or something every day, or some other perk, just to get more players on the server for a short amount of time so that it will fill up and stay filled up for the night (since thats usually what happens) Thoughts?
  14. Had an awesome idea for a game mode I was talking over with Peon ealier :o its not an original idea or anything, but it not been done yet

  15. Ideally, we just need a way to get more people to play.. I guess the problem is that all the proper players are european, so in the middle of the night the players drop off and don't come back. I don't know how we'd fix that off the top of my head, unless we did something like there are bots playing between X and Y times or something (thats probably an awful idea)
  16. No chance i'll be up... :< Ill just watch it on YouTube
  17. So long, Tyria, you severed destroying any chance of me revising for my exam on Wednesday well.. May we meet again soon!

  18. That WOULD be fun Specially if we could customize it a bit with different props and music and stuff, make it more special to the l4g server Its a big change though. Not to mention it would make most of the current GC perks useless - Not that it would affect arena I guess. (for those who dont know what it is)
  19. The dark side of the force is a pathway to many abilities some consider to be.. un-naturalllll

  20. Agreed, I sometimes come on for like 5 mins in the hope that more people will join and stay but it rarely happens. probably cause i'm so pro Is the server on the quickplay list now?
  21. I know, its just a bit shoddy, its not like this is MineCraft, people have already payed £50 for the game and theyve been doing monthhhsss of testing They should of picked this stuff out in Alpha
  22. Honestly, I'm a bit dissapointed.. It feels like I'm playing on my own all the time despite there being thousands of people around. Partys and guild stuff serves barely any purpose, its waaaay too hard to play with friends. I just want to turn on the game, meet up with some friends and do cool shit, where as I have to spend 20 minutes getting to a place to meet with them, then have a 3/4 chance that I get shoved into some random overflow server and can't even play with them: Despite the fact they could easily just make it so friends/party members get put into the same overflow so they can still play the fucking game Considering that they purposefully made it so SMALL groups of friends can play together, they sure did arse up being able to link the small groups The game plays very good of course, its incredible, but currently for an MMORPG its lacking a lot of MMO (in my opinion) which is the most important thing.
