TheGreenGrasshopper Posted January 6, 2010 Posted January 6, 2010 speedruns are meh, you don't get the feeling of the game. Like this part in HL where 2 guys are talking how they wanna kill me and I jump out of the hallway and double kill with rocket launcher.but yeah whatever floats his boat. Quote
BlueYoshi97 Posted January 6, 2010 Posted January 6, 2010 Yup, saw that long time ago. But he's cheating/using exploits! D:Duh, otherwise it would be boring.I only like TAS'ed speedruns. Quote
Dusty Posted January 6, 2010 Posted January 6, 2010 The Super Mario 64 TAS' are the best.I saw a HL2 speedrun which is in several video on YouTube. I believe that was a TAS, they completed in it around 2 hours. Quote
Darkstar Posted January 7, 2010 Posted January 7, 2010 'Spyro'? Spyro The Dragon And I have no idea about TAS Quote
Hundred2 Posted January 7, 2010 Posted January 7, 2010 (edited) Tool Assisted Speedruns Google itI think tools help with performing some crazy glitches (You could skip past the final door in Mario 64 by doing some weird jump stuff that shoots you tru the final door) Edited January 7, 2010 by Hundred2 Quote
Dusty Posted January 7, 2010 Posted January 7, 2010 It is indeed Tool Assisted Speedrun. It slows the gameplay on an emulator down to frame by frame, allowing you to control the game in what would be impossible in real time. Many TAS emulators, such as Mupen64 (Nintendo 64 emulator) also have the option to make re-records. Allowing you to do a certain section of gameplay again and again until perfect. Hundy, Super Mario 64 is beaten using a BLJ (backwards long jump) on the 'never ending' stairs. It builds up enough speed to break through the boundaries and therefore getting you into the last section of the game. This can be done pretty easily in real time as well. It's also not cheating Quote

It's also not cheating The BLJ is used on many different spots, and it is now possible to beat the game with 0 stars. I suck at BLJ'ing. Quote
