You got it the wrong way around. MW1 had a great idea. And they executed it very well. MW2 tried to make it better, but only made it more unbalanced.

Add a 10 second notice for the zombies, so that they know where the ammo crate spawns 10 seconds before the humans do. They could set up an ambush. Because, most of the time, the humans will hunger for weapons. And it will add a tactical advantage for the zombies. They still have to look for the crate.

When survivors are close to winning (say, "One minute left"), a sound can be heard, and a message will be displayed. In the last 20 seconds, you could hear the ticking of a clock, or something like that.
