GrimPeeper
Since one or two people have changed their minds, and stuff has been said, could we poll it or something? And personally I would like to reiterate the fact it is only arena, and possibly to refrain from commenting if you only play on it like once a month. Crashed
Can't seem to find it but just give ur vote on Crits vote before arena on with a yes or no Quote Link to comment
Swizard
In Arena you often play a lot more efficient if you're a skilled player. Can't do much about that.'Skilled player, thus skilled playing' is in contradiction with 'random crits'Lot of hassle to make the points differ per server, and the balance would probably still be off. That just makes you lazy. (which you explain as 'busy'), the stats have always been off (payload got you way more points then CP/CTF), but crashed has clearly pointed out that in arena, it's completely off balance, even if you get a bad score. (thus in an other way contradicting your 'skilled player' comment)And we're not taking out crits. There are enough no-crit / oh-so-perfectly-balanced game servers out there (that no-one cares about). Yes crits can make you rage at times, but they save your ass just as often.Sure crits are Mr.green, but once again, there is a reason crits are turned off in competetive play. (With that I mean pick up games, where even suggesting putting crits on results in a ban) Quote Link to comment
Wixern
I can name at least one popular server which has the choice of random crits at the start of each round. Random crits are the bane of any equal chance. Allow me to demonstrate:You have two soldiers, of equal skill. They start off firing rockets, each hitting the other full-on once, doing 100 damage. Now, they both switch to the shotgun. One of them gets the other to 10 HP. The lowest-health soldier gets a crit, and wins. Obviously, the other soldier SHOULD have won, because he landed more shots. However, the random number generator decides that the other should win. In a battle of skill, luck should not even factor into the equation. So, we can see that the critical hits aren't based on skill. And since these crits are, apparently, part of Mr. Green, that means that the (arena) server is, essentially, not based on skill. If anything, I feel that all servers should have a crit-vote. However, since Arena is undoubtedly the more skill-based server, at least have the vote enabled there. Eliminate luck, and give skill a chance. Quote Link to comment
Clavus
Crits aren't completely random, they are meant to be rewards for killstreaks. Your chance of crits increase with the damage you do within a timeframe. From the TF2 wiki:Standard weapons have a 2% base chance to critical, while melee weapons have a 15% chance. Added on top of that chance is an additional number that increases linearly from 0% to 10% based on total damage done by the player in the last 20 seconds, with a cap of 800 damage. For example, having only killed a 200 health soldier will add a 2.5% chance to critical, totaling at 4.5%.Among those weapons that trigger randomly, critical hit chance is polled differently based on the type of weapon. Single-shot weapons, which, for example, include Shotguns, the Revolver, and the Rocket Launcher, roll the chance to crit with every shot. Thus, every click of the shotgun will have a 2% chance to launch a flurry of critical pellets, assuming no previous damage done. Rapid-fire weapons, however, which include the Minigun, Pistol, and Flamethrower, check for critical hits once a second. With weapons like these, a successful crit roll results in all shots for the next two seconds being marked as critical. Quote Link to comment

Botervloot
Is it so hard to do it?No.Why don't you just try it, for like, 5 days? Disable it. If people like it, keep it. If not, turn it back on. Edited November 28, 2009 by Botervloot Quote Link to comment
Swizard
What axon said, if it was 'completly fair', comptetetive play would have it activated. I'd say just give it a vote system at the start of every round or something. Quote Link to comment
Crashed
Imo, a vote like typing votecrits whenever people want it. Makes it more fair for everyone Quote Link to comment

Donations aren't a constant thing, depends if people feel like doing so.2. Thats based on the odds of winning.3. Thats what people are debating. Quote Link to comment

You are part of the TC.I don't think it's a good idea. It's just the servers don't pay itself and it's not like we make profit on Mr. Green. The current servers won't have no-crits and a seperate no-crits servers might be good for later. Quote Link to comment
