hallooooooen! my name is the vlad the bald, I work in my little farm in the middle of the city, I have potatoes and I actually just want the vodka from it. Now some pharmaceutical industries have been looking to buy all of my vodka as it's pretty good and they can buy it for an amazing low price compared to the normal alcohol. (it's also very flammable). love? what is love? baby don't hurt me pls (I'm not high on that pic, I just was waiting for the train early last saturday)16237872_1105901712872593_289571902_n.jpg

But maybe this is the best route just to keep people happier. If a map does get deleted, do people really lose something in their life if a map in a video game server is deleted? Probably not (unless it's considered a classic map, I guess), so perhaps deleting them based on a ratio like you mentioned would work for now. (I think people will still bitch anyway...)

That's option #2 in the poll :P  as I said earlier, it's really the only option that will allow us to make a change from the status quo and build a consensus. Mosh even said on the 4th comment in this thread that he and Yoshi were already doing #2 anyways. Since heavily disliked maps are currently deleted at the discretion of admins, either we propose/suggest a popularly agreed ratio or we let them do their thing I guess.

All we should really be discussing is what should be the ratio of like/dislikes that will determine whether a map gets deleted or not. A suggestion could be a map can only be deleted if its total amount of dislikes is minimum 2 times the amount of likes, and the total (likes or dislikes) on such a map needs to be at least 100 in Race and 50 in Mix? Seems to me that people in Mix don't bother as much liking or disliking maps than in Race, added to Race having generally more players.

There can be exceptions too, such as classic maps that are loved by old timers and regulars, but disliked due to length or difficulty (e.g. Marathon). Muh Marathon <3

That's why I don't think number 2 is really a good option either. I think of the like / dislike system like a song rating system for your music library. It's all YMMV territory. Someone rating a song 1 out of 5 stars doesn't mean that song sucks.

So y'all haters should grow a pair and deal with it.

True, but I mean, I guess it depends on what the standard ratio is. If there's like two times more dislikes than likes, it's a good indicator that the map is hated by a good portion of players? Especially if the total number of likes and dislikes is large. Say a map has 30 likes and 60 dislikes, wouldn't that be a good indicator nonetheless? At least in MIX, the players who like/dislike maps are usually regulars from what I could tell (correct me if I'm wrong). Opinions will always vary from person to person (I'd delete half the RTF maps and all DD maps if it were just me) but I wouldn't personally mind deleting clearly hated maps by the majority.

  4. #2 seems like the most rational option. Why have a like/dislike system if it's useless? #1 seems drastic considering the margin and how likes and dislikes could change right before an admin decides to remove a map. Also considering the amount of idiots disliking maps only because they're not good enough to complete it, or trolls disliking maps because they hate the authors or are messing around or whatever, I think #2 is the only option that is actually a consensus between #1 and #3.

because they like destruction derby, never the same, shooter; simple gamemodes that don't require many skills, neither it's about skills, it's about having fun, the concept of calling yourself pro because you can finish DM is hypocrite, and also applies to NTS, my favourite gamemode, it's about luck and having two hands, come on..

NTS, SH and even DD (it's just a shit mode because it's boring and redundant) all tend to have the same people winning and making tops because some sort of "skills" have been developed over time by players on these modes. Used to think it was about luck too when I started (especially NTS), and for some maps it really is (Jededo's go forward and free-fall maps for instance), and for tops it kinda is, but when I started playing MIX, I remember Wonas was always winning and now I can beat his ass (te amo roberto) so with time anyone can get better and still have fun.

I don't see a big issue with Rock's idea other than any possible technical one (if there is any) regarding the implementation of such a mode. I've never played DM but Rock's idea seems interesting. Would be sort of like RTF with checkpoints, perks (to "kill" other players) and no ghost mode.

That wouldn't be fair, I'm afraid. You can cap the flag undisturbed late at night when the server's near empty.

this point; we can't really quantify a player's contribution in CTF 'cause it's mostly good teamwork and blocking too. But overall, CTF is a great mode, it's just plagued by horrible team-players and selfish fools mid-day when the server is full of players, which is why most people don't vote again. Also it's a game mode that lasts longer than others.
