Good to see you learned how to use func_details, although you forgot the vertical support brushes on the sides (they're too thin to block the view anyway, so no use in keeping them a brush).
-
For everyone else that's going to lock; please make sure you have time and an idea of what to add.
-
Changed: * Re-aligned botervloot's aquarium. Don't resize the thing when you have complex brushwork; makes half the vertices go offgrid. * Replaced aweful displacement in aquarium * Reapplied missing textures. ONLY USE TEXTURES AVAILABLE IN HL2 EP2 HAMMER SETTINGS. I said we could do custom textures if this map comes out well. So no CSS textures (Deluvas...). * Changed some crappy brushwork * Ladder now uses the right ladder system, not the crappy old CSS system * Optimized map. Come on people, use nodraw textures where needed and turn every brush smaller than a wall into a func_detail... I just increased the VVIS compilation speed a tenfold by following those simple tricks (first it took 1.5 minutes to compile, now 13 seconds). Added: * Bubbles in aquarium * Some interior on the top floor of the house Oh and people, build upon other structures too, avoid just picking a piece of blank space and dumping something there. Before you start editing, make sure you read everything I posted here thoroughly. New VMF: gm_mrgreen.zip UNLOCK

LOCK.

That's why I said to upload it zipped >.> Bah.zip

1:30 hour left Botervloot

Looks just fine You can use different setups, it's just hard to find correct textures in that case. Next person should build upon Evolve's .vmf.
-
Then go get it.

It can be anything right now. So mainly a showcase map without much gameplay purpose. If this community effort turns out nicely, we could try to target more specific things like making a Zombie Survival map.
-
Be sure to call LOCK when you start editing, and UNLOCK after you're done (after which you shouldn't forget to upload the map). Maybe for the next map, if this one's a success.
-
Thought this would be a fun little experiment. Since most of us can map (even a little) in Source, this might actually not be such a bad idea. The idea is that we start with an almost empty map .vmf file, after which a member can contribute a little to that map, after that someone else contributes, etc etc. Like someone build a little shed, someone else puts a few barrels outside, while another person dumps a small landscape behind it. In order to let this community effort run a bit organized, there are a few rules: * If you want to contribute, post LOCK and start editing. Once you're done, upload the new zipped .vmf and edit your post with the words UNLOCK. * Don't start editing without posting a lock or someone else is editing it, or else your contribution will probably be ignored. * If you have a lock, don't keep it for longer than 4 hours (unless you request permission to extend it) or your contribution will be ignored. * Compiling is done in the Half-Life episode 2 engine. So make sure to use HL2 Ep.2 settings for Hammer. * Don't use any custom textures. It'll just be a hassle to keep them all included. * Don't make your changes too big. Don't change lightning too much etc. * Don't delete work of previous contributors, unless it really sucked. * You can edit work of previous contributors as long as it makes it better. * Probably obvious: don't make shitty edits. Don't leave in leaks. Don't make it horribly unoptimized. * POST SCREENSHOTS AND SAY WHAT YOU CHANGED/ADDED That's about it. If you fail to follow any of these rules, your contribution will be ignored. I might add a few rules later if they're needed. For now, here's the starting .vmf: gm_mrgreen.zip This is all there is right now. Add stuff to it. Where does the small ramp go to? A house entrance? A large gap? Splits in a large array of walkways? Let your imagination run free. Don't expand the ground area or skybox just yet, let's see how we can fill up this space first. There's already a few entities in this map (light_environment, shadow_control, tonemap_control and a logic_auto). You can move them, just don't mess with their settings or delete them. Think I'll make a little benchmark soon to check if the Think and Tick rate of the server are running abnormal...

Gmod Contest! Contest 2: "Waiter, theres a ... in my soup".
Clavus replied to Botervloot's topic in Zombie Survival
Next contest is going to be announced from the Steam group and held on L4G to make it easy for everyone. Mah entry: -
We don't have a trade system for the very same reason Steam doesn't have one; if you're account gets hacked or your little brother trades away all your stuff, there's no way we can fix everything.
-
We used a system that only applied the current 'soft collision' only between you and your teammates. Problem was that the plugin we used to make distinctive collision so that you could still collide the normal way with zombies, also caused 'laggy' collision when going through humans. So we gave it a boot to the head. Current system is better than the normal collision system with all its blocking, see it as an advantage

Added zs_subversive_part3 Also, I scrambled the mapcycle.

Fixed one map yesterday (dm_striker I think)

I second this.

As you guys might know, I tried to get the December issue of the PC Gamer UK because Infected Wars was featured in it. First I tried contacting the PC Gamer crew, but they didn't respond. After my many other failed attempts to find it, I finally just took RoboRobb's offer and he sent me his copy last week (arrived in two days). Well what I didn't know is that the PC Gamer actually did sent a copy. But my dad sent them an email around the time I did, and they responded to him saying I already emailed them. My dad then requested to switch the shipping address to his, so he could give me the issue as a birthday present (which was the 16th). Unfortunately, the copy PC Gamer sent to my dad just didn't arrive. So my dad sent an email asking if anything went wrong with the shipping, after which PC Gamer redirected him to myfavouritemagazines.co.uk (I tried to buy the issue there too, but I couldn't pay with PayPal). This morning, my dad decided to order the magazine a second time. When he came home in the evening, he found the first issue PC Gamer had sent on the doormat and me telling I already got RoboRobb's copy last week. Coincidence? Probably. Three copies is better than one I'd say

I'm editting that title of yours Not much of a teamspeak user myself.

This was caused by the last GMod update. Don't know how to fix it. You could try to reinstall GMod and tell me if that fixes it...
-
This one ruined my childhood D: Great drawings!

It's GMod update #61 acting weird. I'm looking into temporarily reverting the servers. We probably won't and just wait for Garry to fix it. EDIT: Appears Garry is testing right now: http://www.facepunch.com/showthread.php?t=716917 EDIT2: We uploaded the fixes to ZS and IW, tell me if you still experience any abnormalities.

And that's why I need to be on more
