Any engine can with sufficient tweaking. In the end it's all just code.

Info on the next update. It'll require the Arma 2 beta (1.61), which should roll out as official Arma 2 update soon afterward. For DayZ there will be an improved login system, which they'll test on only a few servers first, so some current DayZ 1.6.0.1 will remain until Arma 2 moves to 1.61, after which all DayZ servers will move to 1.7.0. Confused yet?

It requires Operation Arrowhead to run, and Arma 2 content besides that (thus the notion Minky made about Arma 2 Free being enough if you take the content from it, although I heard people saying you miss some stuff then). Yeah the mod developer is actually a designer at Bohemia working on Arma 3. This mod was just a spare time project. His bosses must be quite happy with him bringing in such a stream of monies from a product they deemed end-of-life.

Not really higher skill level, more the sense of impending chopper raids from the Sky Mother cult.

Seems a lot of people are picking it up now Note that you can buy the Private Military Company DLC for Arma 2 to get some more high-res models, since the basic survivor model is from that DLC. It is not required, you'll just get a bit lower texture res like you see on the first screenshots I posted in this topic. Do try to get some kind of auto-hotkey / auto-click software so you can spam the enter button without actually ruining your enter button to get into a server. With that trick it takes me about 5 minutes on average to join the server I want. Another protip is that if you're new to Arma 2, to first play some bootcamp in singleplayer to get a feel for the engine, reconfigure your controls, completely turn off first-person headbobbing, shooting some dummy targets and flying helicopters nose first into the ground.

Sorry, but the numbers give me a pretty clear view. Xray bans are permanent. If you think of something that might've caused my plugin to ban you, send it to me over PM and I'll look at it.

It's not that hard to update the mod. They have a full installation tutorial video on the DayZ website's download section. And for today's story: today we got ourselves killed a lot by more patient players. First we (me, Necro, Reap3r (= Goldon Fleeman)) tried ambushing some dudes that were looting the Stary Sobor military base. When they started shooting back our plan kinda failed. The only one that didn't end up dying was Necrossin, and he managed to shoot the wookie that flanked me. In the evening me and Reap3r ran north again from Elektro, with some shitty weapons we picked up along the way. In Mogilevka we got ambushed by another player after we found a dead survivor (protip: dead player (you can hear buzzing flies), means danger around). We didn't get hurt too badly and managed to retreat the area. After that we lay proned on the hill on the north east side of town, when Reap3r spotted someone crouching through the grass right ahead of us. I went up to him and pumped him full with Makerov ammo. This was probably the douche that had tried to ambush us. And I was rewarded for it too: this guy had a M4A1 SD The moment we met up with Reap3r's friend Nightfreeze. The next few hours we spent running around the map from deer stand to deer stand to find some good gear. We also met up with Reap3r's friend again. Then we went for the NW airport to loot the southern baracks. Ended up being the worst decision of the evening. Once we reached the airfield and started sneaking through the woods, someone managed to come up behind us and killed Reap3r and his friend. I managed to pump our attacker full of rifle ammo before bailing out. After that I ran back to the Old Fields north of Novy Sobor. Necrossin will be around that place tomorrow to help give me a blood transfusion We really really need a bigger group. Buy Arma 2 Combined Operations. Install this mod. Get on TeamSpeak. Survive!

Welp, we should've picked a better fight We really ought to find tents and set up a base somewhere.

You will need to provide proof first. We can't base our judgement on every accusation being thrown around.

Username? There's no 'CarbonXoid' banned.
-
That might be likely since the xray plugin reports over 600 people banned by now.

I choose Ho-oh. Ho-oh used Sacred Fire! Minky fainted. Before he could even pick a pokemon. Yes, I don't spend all that much time on Minecraft right now because I am but one person, and our community is sort of build around that and restricted by that. The Factions plugin is meant to allow the server to be self-maintaining. Using as less admin involvement as possible, only to ban cheaters. I really prefer any option that are new automated game elements (new plugins) than having elaborate systems that involve specific people fulfilling specific roles. On the topic of events: they cost time to set up. So instead of me having to do stuff, set it up yourselves up to the point that you'd need me. For example, for another Spleef tournament you can build up an arena, set up team subscriptions on the forum, and do all that stuff and then contact me to arrange rewards / worldedit powers to finish it off. If you can save me time I'm easily willing to cooperate.

Turn brightness and gamma way up at night. It should allow you to see some shit. Also try playing with me, Gordon Fleeman and his friend on TeamSpeak. Working together is far more awesome. Gordon did get us killed today though. He went to loot the airport alone and got himself shot and logged off right before he died. I went to his place of death so I could retrieve his stuff, thinking his attacker left by then. I was wrong And so goes the story of how I lost my huge backpack and sniper rifle. And Gordon his MP5SD. After that we started playing on UK1 (FR2 was fucked after the update). There's a clan around Stary Sobor that uses a chopper which they affectionately call "THE SKYMOTHER". Gordon Fleeman got their attention for some reason and ended up getting me killed by 2 guys the chopper dropped off. Lost my newly found M24 sniper rifle too. Gordon and his friend did manage to kill my killer afterward. The other guy started popping flares like crazy though, signaling the chopper that eventually came back and scared us off.

TThe main problem is Minky, this system of special players that you propose ends up taking more of my time in the end, be it in the implementation or the maintenance. Also most of the privileges you described I would only trust to admins.

READ my first post for the rules on claiming.

Yeah I made a DayZ channel on our teamspeak.

I'm very much enjoying myself so far. Plus I got great stuff and I've survived for hours on end now.

So basically the Gods faction. I'm not giving WorldEdit to anyone I can't punch in the face personally in case of abuse.

Today I've been murdering. I've tapped into sniper skills I didn't even know I had. It was an amazing day. Sit down tight because this is quite some text Holiday picture I made of Necrossin on our trip to the north west. Wish you were there! So first our situation. Me and Necro left off from Elektrozavodsk after a few failed attempts at surviving. We headed north west until we reached Novy Sobor, were we briefly met up with Gordon Fleeman (username 'Gebruiker' ingame right now), he had to go afk so couldn't follow us right away. From there we headed to Stary Sobor and that's when all hell broke loose. A little drawing of our situation. Actually we didn't just 'head' to Starry Sobor. We ran because Necro managed to attract a zombie horde of about 12 zombies (1). I ran with him to attract some of the zombs away from him so if you saw some idiots with a whole posse of zombies running behind them on the FR2 server saturday afternoon, that could've been us. But now for the fun part. We had heard shots coming from Stary Sobor. So I did what any full-on retard would do: I ran right into the thick of it with the horde hot on our heels. It appeared some Russians were looting the military camp at Stary (2). They did not look very pleased when we came in and ruined their party. Necro and I ran around their location, trying to stay out of their fireline but close enough to make them panic from all the running zombies. They did start shooting at us at some point and someone hit Necrossin in the leg, but there were no more zombies on his tail at that point so he had time to bandage up and get away safely. Meanwhile I got out in the field and managed to drop the last 3 zombies that were still chasing me. Necro and I just lost a horde of zombies by ruining the day of a group of Russian players and firing only a few shots in the end. And we survived. We felt awesome. I circled around the back and took out my CZ 550 hunting rifle, overlooking the camp we ran through like headless chickens minutes earlier (3). I noticed one of the Russian guys trying to shake off some zombies. He turned around to shoot at them. Then I put a bullet through his chest. Didn't count as a kill but the zombs ate him soon after. I felt like a douche At this point I went to lunch (IRL) and after that I logged back in. Gordon Fleeman met up with me while Necrossin had some logging issues and couldn't join us further, so it was me and Gordon. He suggested we lay a trap at the camp. So he faked some distress calls saying he was at the military camp, while we positioned ourselves up on the hill again (3). We waited and waited until someone in chat took the bait. Didn't quite go as planned. Suddenly a guy popped up BEHIND us and ducked to the ground while we quickly turned around to fire. And so concludes the story of how I got a bandit skin and Gordon Fleeman got a silenced MP5. The guy also had a load of tools so that saved me a lot of trouble looting houses. Being an asshole is rewarded well Still there was a problem, this guy was part of a clan. According to chat, his buddies weren't too happy (especially that we stole the uber-rare silenced MP5 from his body). Lots of angry Russian in chat. We knew better than to stay where we were so we moved across the field, sticking to the bushes on the edge. Then we circled around a bit and lay down on the edge of the tree line (4). The hill where we committed our faithful murder was now just at the horizon. Somehow we knew we had to look back. And there they were. Two guys circling around the top of the hill trying to find the body, and its killers. We were just observing them but then they did something odd. They went north, into the open field. They didn't seem to be noticing us but I grabbed my chance. They were like 300m out yet the first shot went right through the back of the head of one of the soon-to-be-poor bastards. The other guy panicked and ducked to the ground, but with the next shot I relocated his jaw. Lots of angry Russian was muttered in chat that day. Bandit skin is really good camo actually. Also Necrossin translated the chat text there for me: ""if gebruker (forgot the actual name) will call for some help - its an ambush, these guys have sniper rifles" Gordon and me went further north from there on out, with a plan to loot Devil's Castle. In the end we did, but there wasn't much interesting going on. No players around to confront either. And thus we decided to circle around the north of the map and go to the airfield. The day was running late. The server time is realtime so when it gets late in the evening it gets dark ingame. Gordon brought in a friend of his whom was wielding a crossbow. Server crashed for a moment, we logged back in and I lost my bandit skin. We were at the north of the airfield now and ready for some night ops. Using my rifle scope I spotted a sentry holding watch on top of the radio tower. I took the shot. That shot is in my top 3 Day Z experiences We went up and down the airfield further but encountered no other players. Lots of sneaking around while looking like (and most importantly: feeling like) a team of badass covert operatives though. And so, after going around the airfield twice, sitting through multiple rainfalls, and luring one poor player into a trap (less crowning moment of awesome but we still wanted to shoot something tonight), getting some awesome loot (I now have the biggest backpack and an M16A4 ACOG) we got a bit bored. And thus we lit up the radio tower.

Was doing great. Until I got ambushed by a sniper at the church in Pogorevka. Dead before I could react. Lost my matches, watch, toolbox and hunting knife
-
Found binoculars. Damn handy I've also become the god of fire.

DE2 is the most stable server I've found yet. Also my 8 hour character with enough blood for a nest of mice just got killed when I entered a city and some douchy noob came up behind me. Me and Necrossin have been trying to meet up for hours now but we keep spawning across the map from each other
-
Also I totally found out where I am now. The 6th screenshot was taken at Solnichniy. However when I spawned today I was no longer on the brink of death (blood level 11000 wooh) and I was in the top right corner of the map at Willow Lake. Still have my stuff though.
