Don't post if you don't care. Can't you see you're being a complete idiot.

I've added an AFK-kicker plugin to the server. This makes sure those mob idlers don't build up massive groups of mobs that lag the server.

I blame Minecraft and Bukkit's instability at the moment. Minecraft 1.4.3 is on the way (and according to Jeb, it fixes masses of bugs), and Bukkit only got it's beta release yesterevening.
For now I'll just restart the server when the tickrate gets low.

Clavus got a reaction from LordiAnders in Minecraft Map-Switch Refund
I got a PM last night from a Minecraft user with a legitimate complaint: he bought a lot of items just a few days before the Minecraft server moved to a new map, basically meaning he lost all the shipments he bought.
I kind of saw this issue coming and that's why I've decided to adopt the following system:

If we start a new Minecraft map, players will still lose all their Minecraft inventory like usual, this won't change and is part of the fresh start.
Shop items that can be classified as perks (and special items like the Peace Treaty) will transfer to the new map just fine.
When we start a new map, I will refund half the Green-Coins you spend on shipments (stock items) the past week in the Minecraft GC shop.

So if you bought 3 stock items of respectively 500 GC, 40 GC and 800 GC in the week before the map switch, you'll get 250+20+400 = 670 GC refunded.
I will try to warn people when we're moving to a new map sooner from now on. This will also mean that once you know a new map is coming, all shipments are basically 50% off because half of it will be refunded on map switch.
I've just applied this to our last world move (during the hardware upgrade) so some of you guys should be a little richer now.
    That'll be all.

How about we just suck it up and move on. Stable Minecraft releases are for pussies.

Clavus got a reaction from Arild_ in Minecraft External Hosting subscription: want less lag? Help out!
I've dusted off our subscription system to once again move the community to help out financially with a gameserver.
    What's this about?
I want to move the Minecraft server to an external host. Specifically, to minecraftserver.net (which seems to receive a lot of positive feedback). The server would be located in the Netherlands, so no change there. The reason to move to an external host is quite simple: the Minecraft server performance on our current dedicated box is lacking. The tickrate starts dropping after we have just a few dozen people. Moving to an external host should resolve this problem, but of course, there's a price. The external hosting costs would add to what I already pay for our dedi, so I'm going to need some help.
What do I need people to do?
If you log in on your Green-Coins page you'll see the Minecraft external hosting subscription listed. The subscription system works as follows: we start with a preliminary stage, which is basically a head count of people that want to subscribe. You can choose from several different subscription options, ranging from 5 to 25 euros a month, depending on what you're willing to give.
    What happens then?
If enough people show that they're willing to subscribe (by collectively reaching the target total), I can activate the actual subscription. I notify everyone who pledged to subscribe via email to come back and make it official. Every subscriber will receive a permanent reserved slot on the Minecraft server. Also you'll receive Green-Coins for every euro you send our way, just like normal donations.
Note that you need a verified Paypal account with sufficient balance. If you don't have your stuff in order, but still participate, it means I have to deal with the holes in the budget.
That's about it. Let's see how much people care
    UPDATE:
Even though nobody really seemed to warm up to the idea, I've started renting a 40 slot server anyway. The server has already moved to this new location. The subscription will remain running; if we can get enough subscribers, we can upgrade to a larger slot server.

Maybe we should do a long distance LAN. Force everyone with decent internet and a webcam in a tinychat the entire night and connect the network through Hamachi.

The fine is 3063 euros, not 8000. You pay it on top of your college fees so if you finish earlier in the year you only have to pay a part of the fee. Plus the fee only goes in effect if you take more than 1 extra year than the standard years needed for your study.
And at this moment the politicians are debating whether to cancel the fee altogether before it goes into effect coming September. It might be dumped at the last moment which would be great for me, since it'll save me quite some money
