I never quit and I could still easily work on the mod. I wanted to work on this since deluvas times and I'm not gonna let that go now. The fact that the server is running on an older version of gmod is incredibly bad and I will inform Ywa (oh he's on holiday).

As far as I'm aware the quality of the mod is at its highest in the last year (server had +30 players on the weekend of prime changes by me), if not longer. No doubt that if I do look at the mod again soon I will notice problems and will say to myself "why did I do this" and this is because I didn't touch it in over a month so I'm less biased.

I'm not aware of any bad balancing or broken gameplay, the closest thing is probably the slight slowdown that humans get when falling.

Also I don't see any suggestions or improvements in this topic that I would consider valid so the whole "not listening to players" doesn't really work since there isn't anything to actually listen to.

Holidays are coming! What are you guys going to do? (apart from playing games) Any trips planned, events? Tell me all about it!
    My personal list:
    - My first eclectic festival of this summer is this Sunday. Very excited for it! The video underneath is last years aftermovie.
    - First week of July I'm going to do a roadtrip with 2 friends to the German Alps. Only 5 days though.
    - I have a day off and afterwards I'm going to the airport to go alone on a group-trip to Cuba! There are 6 girls and 2 men (including me). I ain't complaining.
    - In August I'll most likely be going to Greece for 2 weeks of sun and chilling.

This must be my most socially active summer yet.

Toxik reacted to awesomeo_5000 in Ok, Factions is no longer fun, we need something new
    Working off your idea:

I've used Towny a fair amount, and for larger-scale affairs it really is miles better than Factions. It has the ability to create nations - a collection of towns with a capital city, controlled by a single person and their assistants. Nations can recruit other towns, and wage wars against other nations.

It works well with economy - something the server's never had but would need - in that you can set a daily tax, linked to the size of the town. To establish an economy, you could use the chest shop plugin, set up stores at spawn that buy resources for cash and then each town would need to gather resources to make money and keep their town alive. Any town that doesn't meet their tax will have their land unclaimed, and free to be pillaged. You can also configure it to cost money to create a town, and to claim plots, meaning newer players can't spam claim without first mining a bunch of resources to do so.

At the start of the map, 3 nations are created by trusted players. These players can then recruit any town into their nation. This way, new players and friends can create their own city and bases whilst being part of a larger objective. Nations take a small tax off each town. The nation leader can use this extra cash to strengthen his town, recruiting the newer players, or they could pay other towns for aid in building, war, etc. In return for the tax, the joining town is offered protection and alliance - any towns that don't want to join a nation will be an easy target.

I think it'd be really cool with the new minecraft update. Especially if you can create a custom map where there are three large islands with mixed biomes seperated by ocean. At spawn there can be three teleporters.

Perhaps each nation could have a particular strength and weakness? Perhaps a lower town tax, but higher land claim price for smaller focussed nations. Perhaps each nation could have a separate resource in their capital to generate money. (ie. one nation has the ability to sell iron and cobble, the other sells stone and coal). This could generate an economy by encouraging each nation to trade their resources with each other, or creating slightly richer empires that focus on trade rather than combat.

Alternatively, you could try a modpack like Feed The Beast - though it's resource hungry, it's popular. Combat is reshuffled thanks to new armour and weapons and there's plenty more stuff to do.

I still think the factions formula is a good thing. Perhaps an entirely vanilla, no rules approach would help? Just a vanilla server with factions. Or, it could go the other way and brand as a hardcore factions server wherein all potions and  weapon/armour enchantments are gone. I'd be interested to see how both pan out.

I feel the latter would be the most enjoyable, but would require some focussed advertising. Sticking to one vote site that best reflects the audience we want, and rewarding the votes appropriately. On the vote/forum pages it would need to blatantly explain its tool enchants only, no potions. People will either love it or hate it.

Toxik reacted to Clavus in Admin Abuse (in general)
Let me make this clear. The job of an admin is to be as unobtrusive as possible. Flying around without good reason gets people on edge. Spawning stuff for others messes with the game too. As an admin you're only supposed to interfere when rules are being broken. World edit is not to be used outside of removing lava mountains or world cleanup. When monitoring, stick to the vanish and spectate powers you're granted.

These rules aren't solid, but break them unless you have good reason to. This is how I envision the role of admins of our server.

If anyone thinks someone isn't a good admin, build a case with solid proof before you come complaining.

Oh and one more thing Mathijs:

That sort of reasoning is retarded. You are granted administrative powers because I trust to do your job well. If you misuse this trust, it is 'abuse' in every sense of the word.

Yeah, we're creatively dead in the water at the moment. It feels like Factions is played out, we need something new. I'll probably open a suggestion topic.

You bring 2 big points up where you're totally right, the minecraft community has changed and the only succesfull servers are or filled with kids or are massive donater servers filled with kids who throw hundreds of dollars away.

Toxik reacted to Kodauer in Why MrGreen Faction Wars is Doomed
Well, I've officially lost all faith in the Minecraft server ever being revived to it's former glory. Usually upon map resets the server is full for a couple days; I haven't seen it full once since the recent reset. It's barely half occupied.

Quite frankly, I believe the server has passed a point of no return, due to a variety of reasons:

    1. As much as I respect Clavus' decisions regarding the server, they simply have driven away many players. How can an admin who doesn't even play on the server decide what's best for it? Sure, Clavus has years of experience under his belt regarding administering servers, but too much has changed for those years of experience to be practical.

    2. The Minecraft community in general has devolved to, a group of young kids. The older Minecrafters simply don't play anymore. I remember giving an 8 year old guy some supplies to get started (later quit). The server environment promotes success as a result of hard work- something the majority of players on the server (children) simply don't have the patience to do. The result? A bunch of noobs sitting in water cubes or running around spawn.

    3. The quality of playing has also decreased dramatically. I joined at a time where the server was already declining, and only got a taste of the epic faction wars that once were. I downloaded an old MrGreen Save and I was simply amazed by the scale of some the old bases, like LRG's or Discord's. You don't find that at all now. Everyone sits in water cubes grinding away on enchants, only leaving to spawn kill noobs with nothing. PvP is near impossible without someone spamming 10 damage potions at you.

For these reasons, I have decided to stop playing MrGreen MC actively. There's simply no point. There's no PvP action, no one to appreciate a base well built and no hope in sight for anything to be fixed. Despite the player counts, MrGreen was always fun. It was so addicting- the atmosphere of competition was intense. Was.

I'd be happy to see the server a simple survival server, or anything really. Something that reflects the quality gaming MrGreen is known to provide.

I'm starting to get the feel the admins just don't like the server anymore. If you want to get rid of it, or stop it, please don't leave us hoping for a better future.

    Sincerely,

    a severely nostalgic MCer

How about a full build mode at the very beggining where everyone has got to build a city. Everyone has time at start to build their houses inside the perimeter of a city.
Colosseum will be there for people who want to PVP.
But the rest has to be built by other players.

Like, you are given some territory, ok?
Inside of it's perimeter you have to build a house. The better the house the more GC this person is awarded and the more space he's available to build on.

Other than that, the players will be able to exit territory to get resources to build their houses and other stuff.

This could be actually compatible with suggestion above. Those will be 2 huge factions with raids happening on each other from time to time.
The leaders of those factions will be server admins, say, 1 faction - Mathijs, another faction - Awesomeo.

But mostly it will be build.
The houses can be destroyed by other factions during the raids so these both factions will have to build like a huge wall around their city.
    Something like that.

Each city will also have sort of a "citadel" where resources and goods are stored.
What those factions do is they protect those goods from the other faction while trying to steal from each other.

The /f home will be disabled during raids and every player that joins will be randomly assigned to a faction.

EDIT: Maybe it can also be possible for each of these factions to build small forts outside the city as control points with supplies?

Toxik reacted to Clavus in Hi Admins. Just a question.
Most major modifications just ended with people complaining. I'm waiting for Mojang to stop adding redundant shit like horses to their game and give us a decent mod API. They promised to give us one over a fucking year ago.

Xray plugin is staying. Xrayers undermine (pun not intended) the whole server economy.

I really don't have the time to provide server upkeep at the moment. I'd love to delegate this to other people, but nobody seems mature enough, or has a solid plan on how to keep everyone entertained and happy. If you think you're up for it, PM me. Explain why you'd make a good server manager and what you'd do with the server.

somewhat better. Now some things that need to be made on next update:
    + buff melee
    +increase normal zombies health
    -make normal zombie slower

    reason:
when many ppl cade and there is only couple of zombies its hard to break the cade when you die so easily as zombie, but when its a running map you die too easily as human cause the zombie is so damn fast. The weapons are pretty powerful so increasing zombies health shouldnt add any unbalance, but then meleeing would suck so the melee weapons need to be buffed at the same time

also poison headcrabs should be unlocked at wave 3 or 4 cause they are so damn annoying
