There's no inactivity kicker. Just carry on building your base etc then later on tonight when the server calms down for a bit, leave your self afk for a while, could do it over night then have a look in the morning. On mac I can auto-crouch by pressing left shift, then right shift together, then letting both go. Not sure if you can do it on PC though. You'll only uncrouch if you type or another window pops up.

Please do not misconstrue this as unnecessary criticism. I'm just trying to give you some feedback that will help you both in future admin applications, and life in general.
    Be Honest.
In the beginning of 2011 you were 22.
Towards the end of 2011 you were 24.
    The beginning of 2012? 23.
Today you are 21. I can understand your thought process, that age begets maturity and thus the higher the number the higher your chances. But I'm afraid maturity is something that you have to display, rather than something which is granted to you over time.
Without honesty in your application, it is unreasonable to expect people to come and be 100% behind you. That being said, I wish you luck and hope you learn from this.

awesomeo_5000 got a reaction from xpr0legendx in Ok, Factions is no longer fun, we need something new
    Working off your idea:

I've used Towny a fair amount, and for larger-scale affairs it really is miles better than Factions. It has the ability to create nations - a collection of towns with a capital city, controlled by a single person and their assistants. Nations can recruit other towns, and wage wars against other nations.

It works well with economy - something the server's never had but would need - in that you can set a daily tax, linked to the size of the town. To establish an economy, you could use the chest shop plugin, set up stores at spawn that buy resources for cash and then each town would need to gather resources to make money and keep their town alive. Any town that doesn't meet their tax will have their land unclaimed, and free to be pillaged. You can also configure it to cost money to create a town, and to claim plots, meaning newer players can't spam claim without first mining a bunch of resources to do so.

At the start of the map, 3 nations are created by trusted players. These players can then recruit any town into their nation. This way, new players and friends can create their own city and bases whilst being part of a larger objective. Nations take a small tax off each town. The nation leader can use this extra cash to strengthen his town, recruiting the newer players, or they could pay other towns for aid in building, war, etc. In return for the tax, the joining town is offered protection and alliance - any towns that don't want to join a nation will be an easy target.

I think it'd be really cool with the new minecraft update. Especially if you can create a custom map where there are three large islands with mixed biomes seperated by ocean. At spawn there can be three teleporters.

Perhaps each nation could have a particular strength and weakness? Perhaps a lower town tax, but higher land claim price for smaller focussed nations. Perhaps each nation could have a separate resource in their capital to generate money. (ie. one nation has the ability to sell iron and cobble, the other sells stone and coal). This could generate an economy by encouraging each nation to trade their resources with each other, or creating slightly richer empires that focus on trade rather than combat.

Alternatively, you could try a modpack like Feed The Beast - though it's resource hungry, it's popular. Combat is reshuffled thanks to new armour and weapons and there's plenty more stuff to do.

I still think the factions formula is a good thing. Perhaps an entirely vanilla, no rules approach would help? Just a vanilla server with factions. Or, it could go the other way and brand as a hardcore factions server wherein all potions and  weapon/armour enchantments are gone. I'd be interested to see how both pan out.

I feel the latter would be the most enjoyable, but would require some focussed advertising. Sticking to one vote site that best reflects the audience we want, and rewarding the votes appropriately. On the vote/forum pages it would need to blatantly explain its tool enchants only, no potions. People will either love it or hate it.

Just a heads up, from now on if anyone is caught doing this I'll be handing out temp bans. Abusing vanilla glitches is one thing, but this will create an unfairly frustrating PvP mechanic if it's not punished (we have CT for a reason).

awesomeo_5000 got a reaction from Toxik in ABUSE?!?!?!!? I Think so!
I've been playing Feed The Beast on a huge server, clocks over 3k donations every month. And I've learned that the admin staff here are really fucking nice. Even at our worse, we're always more professional and polite than most other servers out there that aren't run by 12 year olds.

It's an internet game. Unless someone's directly insulting you or constantly attacking you it's pretty impossible to dislike someone. The only people I can say I've really disliked on this server were Jinrai and co. because they were intentionally inflammatory. There have been a lot of people that thought I disliked them just because I put them under more scrutiny than others. It was nothing to do with my like or dislike of a person behind a username, but just that they were acting suspicious, I was sent evidence that was borderline and concerning, or they were giving off hack warnings.

If you're doing nothing wrong, there's no reason to be bothered by an admin checking you out. When situations like this happen, understand admins are human and not perfect. Instead of kicking off, posting troll topics and giving the admin reason to hate you, calmly state your case and leave it be. If any admin bans you, we'll all read your appeal and weigh in and it's not going to end up as youre banned because one of us dislikes you.

To be fair, I generally find it pretty hilarious and it's easy to get out with /kill. It's not a 'nice' thing to do but, this is faction wars and there's not a whole lot of niceness to it. I once had a guy we locked in a purpose built dungeon. He slept in the bed and that became his new spawn point when he killed himself. Whilst it was funny at the time he then had a way into our base at all times.

Hopefully the people that are trapped will learn from their mistakes.  Tonyhok isn't a noob by my watch, he's been playing for quite some time.

For me it had one of the better game narratives of recent years, I really enjoyed Jason Brody's character arc - it was believable. The co-op was mundane, but thanks to some extreme glitches it was pretty funny. The mission where you have to stop a convoy lead to hilarious AI driving. The multiplayer was unplayable thanks to an odd match making system on the 360.

If anyone skipped them, go back and do the Trials of The Rakyat. There's a gun game (weapon swaps after each kill) trial which is really addictive.

Best solution would be to not unban the X-rayers on a map start but instead leave it a week before unbanning them, allows more legit playres to get diamonds first.

I made a pig racing track and have decided to host a good old fashion throw down this Sunday. Grab your saddles and your sticks, and get ready for some glitchy, physics-ignorant fun! There will be free bacon for all racers and spectators, as well as a firework show for the winner's ceremony.

To sign up simply reply with the following:

    SIGN ME UP
    IGN:
    Faction:

Players will be split into heats based on total number of applicants. The winner from each heat will go on to the next round. Until I get an idea of how many people are going to be racing I can't give specifics, but the heats will be against 3-5 people.

    Rules:
Do not get off of your pig. If your pig dies, you are disqualified. There are health points throughout the map, which should help you look after your future bacon. You must start with an empty inventory. You may only equip a carrot on a stick during the race. Do not hit each other's pigs.  Prizes:

    2500GC 1000GC 700GC
    But wait, there's more!

The champion will also get to choose between a copy of indie title Don't Starve or the big G of physics sandbox games, Garry's Mod. Whichever title the winner deems as trash will get thrown to the tearful runner up.

I think I'll try this, since it seems Factions does pass some events around: as a solo player you won't be able to claim more than 1 chunk, enough for a mudhut. For 2 players, it's 4 chunks. From 3 players and up, it's to full extend of your faction power.

awesomeo_5000 got a reaction from kittycool321 in why no one plays this server.
I quickly learned one thing when most of my IRL friends stopped playing Minecraft - Faction Wars is no fun alone.

The solo people that tend to do well are the guys that just get on with it. I think it's unreasonable to expect someone that's put a lot of hours into building up their base and inventory to accept someone new to the server that could easily ruin everything.

You had it right to begin with, just do your own thing for a while. Build a base, talk in chat, try trading so people get to know your name and see your l33t base building skills and eventually someone worthwhile will invite you. If that never happens you still have a base and hopefully some faction members that have proven to be reliable and you won't need any invites.

Oh and next time go inventory-less. It's a scrub tactic but you can't beat free gear delivered right to your doorstep.

Also, on the subject of one man factions. Why not eh? We have power decay for any would be litterers.

awesomeo_5000 got a reaction from Toxik in Idea's for a pvp arena
What do you guys think an arena would bring to the server?

Before, if someone trash talked, wanted to fight, insulted your saint of a mother or pretty much any reason you could muster, you'd make haste to their base and use everything at your disposal to get in and spawn kill them to obliteration. Nowadays it seems people just exchange U HACK from their water lined obsidian cubes and complain there's a lack of PvP to the game.

I just see an arena as a way to gain a little equipment and bragging rights. Which is a watered down version of gaining a lot of equipment and gaining someone's metaphorical scalp from a base bust-up.

I think there could be better ways to improve, or encourage raiding. Lowering water and obsidian's TNT resistance to just below threshold might make a difference. That way no one is really automatically safe, and your options are either fight or log and pray they don't get in during your TNT cool down timer.

Or, just take it upon yourselves to build less than impenetrable bases. If you really are the PvP Gods you think you are, you should be able to rock a mudhut and still defend it against any would be barbarians. Getting raided is fun, and if you're good enough you'll get delivered gear right on your doorstep. Protect your good stuff in a sealed off room, leave the major parts of your base tntable, and see what happens. I guarantee you it'll at least be more interesting than sitting in your obsidicube and wondering where the fun went.

All this said, I've resorted to hiding chat most of the time I've been playing recently to avoid the spawn kills I see going on, so something must be working?
