This. You might want to check if your CPU and GPU actually leave their idle states when you launch Minecraft. If they are stuck at lower clock speeds it'd explain your performance. You can use MSI Afterburner to see a graph of your GPU clock over time. Something like CPU-Z should show you the current CPU clock, although I don't think it had a graph function.

An i7 laptop processor should be fine for Minecraft. Something else must be bogging you down.

Time to bump the general-purpose topic. Planning on starting a new map next week unless 1.5 is announced in a short while, but I don't expect that to happen. Changes will include some enchantment limitations.

Seems it's possible to put a custom limit on the enchantment level, already found a plugin for it. Let's try this next map: Max (normal / fire / projectile) protection lvl: 2 Max sharpness lvl: 4 Max bow power lvl: 3 After checking the values on the Minecraft wiki, this seems reasonable. It evens out the PvP playing field but still allows some upgrading. I'll also looking at nerfing the instant damage potion to compensate somewhat.

Depends on the game. Some are lean heavily on GPU performance while others can get extra frames out of a better CPU Replacing the CPU is quite expensive because you usually have to overhaul half your system to accommodate (new motherboard etc). I'd first make sure if your game performance is really CPU-dependent.

Nobody flamed me after talking about a French series. But that might just be because I rule this joint. LOK is pretty neat, although the story is full of cop-outs near the ending. Still waiting for the 2nd season, because it's coming.

Doesn't necessarily have to be the temperature. Sometimes you need to boost your voltage a bit to make the card run stable on a higher clock speed. Although never boost it too far or that will bring its own set of instabilities. It's best to look up details on whether specific card models are known to overclock well.
